ABOUT THE SHOW

By the time you read this, up to 20 black and brown men and women will have been killed by the hands of the police this week. In fact in June 2021, 92 people in this country were fatally shot by the hands of the police. In 2020 alone there were 1,021 fatal police shootings.

This Concerns us.

For over 20 years Congo Square Theatre has committed to telling stories on stage by and for Black people. We strongly believe that Aleshea Harris’ profound play What To Send Up When It Goes Down addresses the physical and spiritual deaths of Black people as a result of racialized violence.

Congo Square Theatre seeks to offer the Chicago community a unique opportunity in this play-pageant ritual homecoming event - to mourn, heal and celebrate the many lives stolen from us by the injustice of white supremacy.

This piece is powerful. It is necessary. It’s going down.

Come send it up!

I’ve been nominated & deemed WINNER of my first award for my portrayal of Lola in Kinky Boots by the StageScene LA’s “Scenie” Awards!

BWW Review: KINKY BOOTS at Starlight Theatre

" Jos N Banks, as Lola, is a quadruple threat! Banks acting makes one think he was born onstage and has never left. His singing and dancing in numbers like "Sex is in the Heel" are stellar, and his acrobatics in both heels and boxing gloves must make him the envy of the Broadway acting community! "
